 Australian wine imports in October first over France

Australia first overtook France in October, becoming the largest importer of bottled wine in China, though France still has the lead in the first 10 months of this year.

According to the latest data released by China wine and spirits import and Export Association, in October, China imported 8 million 420 thousand liters of bottled Australian wine, valued at about 69 million 600 thousand dollars, while the total import of French wine was 63 million 860 thousand dollars, which amounted to 12 million 890 thousand liters.

China has surpassed the us to become Australia's highest export wine market. Australia overtook France in October, and is expected to further push Australia's exports to China, and the tariff reduction will help more from January 1st next year.

China and Australia signed a free trade agreement in 2015, which stipulates a reduction of tariffs year by year. At present, the tariff of wine has been reduced from 14% to 5.6%. By next year's new year, the tariff will be reduced to 2.8%, and then it will be completely remitted in 2019.
